Readers' Letters: It's cultural cowardice to remove Robert Burns from Higher English subjects
According to Neal Ascherson, (London Review of Books, June 1st 2023), just off Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, there is a faded bronze plaque set into a wall. It commemorates the barricade fighters of the 1848 revolution, who defended themselves against the Second Royal Regiment of Prussia. The words on the plaque, says Ascherson, include a German translation of Robert Burns' - 'It's coming yet, for a that/That man to man the warld oer/Shall brothers be for a that'.
